How to Save Money When House Painting
It can be exciting to have your house interior painted or exterior painted in a new color or shade. It gives your house a new look, but it can also be very costly, and you may not be prepared for the kind of expenses you are going to accrue. Or you may just be looking for the most cost-effective ways to get the job done. You’ve come to the right place, then, as we are going to provide you with some money-saving tips
to help you cut those costs while still making your house look spectacular.
It may not need to be said, but the most obvious way to save some money on house painting is to just do the job yourself. Now, if you have no experience in house painting, you may want to enlist the help of a family member or friend who does or at least look up some information online about how to go about doing the work, but you really can save tons of money by just buckling down and getting it done on your own.
Our next tip is to not buy more paint than you need. You might not know how much paint it takes to do a whole room on the outside of your house, but it’s likely that a paint supplier will know the answer. If you give your paint supplier the measurements for the area you want to paint, they may be able to tell you how much paint you will need so that you don’t go over your budget or buy paint that you don’t need.
Tied to that tip is the idea of saving the paint you don’t use. You should learn how to conserve paint and then know how to seal it properly so that you can use it again later, if you need it. You may also be able to sell that excess paint to someone else who needs it.
We also suggest looking for free paint options. There are a lot of these, if you know where to look. You can talk to neighbors and family members who have completed paint projects in the past. They may have some spare paint left that you can use as a primer or to do the entire job. You can also talk to your paint supplier about free samples, unused or returned paint that they have lying around or just ask them which paints you can get a good deal on because they may not be big sellers.
You can also buy used materials. Many thrift stores, consignment shops and even yard sales will have used paint supplies that you can use to save a few dollars here and there. You may not be able to save a ton of money this way, but when you are working on a tight budget, any bit can help.
We hope one or all of these tips come in useful for you as you try to find ways to cut costs and paint your house on a budget.
